Understanding Emerging Markets in Africa
Africa includes 6 of the top 10 fastest growing economies in the world. With over 1.3 billion people, the continent is expected to double its population in the next 30 years and is on trajectory to supersede China in demographic growth by 2023. Clearly, emerging markets in Africa hold substantial promise for Maine businesses in several sectors.
If you are wondering “How do we get there from here?” watch the video to hear MITC President Wade Merritt’s recent conversation with an expert on the African market, Richard Zurba from Zurcom International. Richard’s best advice for Maine businesses thinking about exploring new markets in Africa was to enter into the process with a spirit of adventure and an interest in building relationships. “Be your usual friendly self,” he said, in order to find the best opportunities for your business.
Richard Zurba has over 21 years of experience assisting companies into the African market. He is the Director of Zurcom International (Pty) Ltd, which presently is the contracted representative for 10 US state governments in Africa. Founded in 1999, Zurcom has worked with over 4,200 different company projects in relation to international trade entering Africa and has staff in South Africa, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe.
